Chippy - Available for Adoption Through Border Collies In Need (S. CA)
Meet Chippy. Chippy is aproximately one year old male traditionally marked Border Collie.
Chippy is very friendly and outgoing, BUT is also very scared of new situations and people until he can get used to them. Don't confuse this with fear based aggression towards people, as this behavior should subside with time as Chippy builds his confidence with clear, concise, and consistent direction. Chippy is getting used to the stimulus of city living and requires a patient person to help him overcome the noise with positive reinforcement training. Small children scare Chippy, so a home without small children or even school age kids is recommended.
Chippy can be very affectionate and loving. He is also very food motivated, so treats will get you a long way with him. He walks well on a leash, but also needs guidance. Chippy is socialized with dogs, and enjoys playing with his foster brothers. Chippy would be best suited in a home with another dog.
Chippy needs a yard to play in, but as with all Border Collies, this is not a breed that will happily lie in the corner of a backyard and watch the world go by. Chippy loves to come inside and is crate trained. He will seek out his crate for comfort. He is very active and loves to run and play. Has not been evaluated with cats, but he probably would chase them if he could.
Chippy is a bit of a diamond in the rough and he will continue to blossom with an experienced Border Collie/ herding dog savvy person. The best suited home for Chippy is one without children, where his person is home a lot, has the time to spend with him to help him overcome the faster pace of the city, and is committed to confidence building with positive reinforcement.
If you are interested in meeting our dogs, please fill out an adoption application. We require a pre-approved application to be on file before any meet and greets are scheduled. Our dogs have been sterilized, microchipped, and are up to date on their vaccinations. The electronic application can be found on our website at www.bordercolliesinneed.org/border_collie_rescue_and_adoptions/adoption_application.html.
