DRAKO
Drako
Drako is an 11-month-old Aussie.  Listed as a BC/Aussie in the Lake Isabella shelter, we do not see any BC in this big boy.  We estimate his weight to be 60-65 pounds.  A devilishly handsome tri with a dense rough coat.

Drako was adopted out as a puppy to an elderly couple.  Try as they might, the shelter staff could not talk these folks out of a herding breed puppy.  Well, he was returned as a teenage pup, too much for them to handle.  He chewed a couple of cords in the house and they were done with him.  Go figure!  Puppies chew and while the general public only thinks of wee ones as puppies, teenagers are still puppies!  Herding breeds mentally mature much slower than other breeds.  Additionally they restricted his activity because they couldn't handle him so he is overweight.  Something that is starting to resolve now that he has full run of a very large yard and other of his kind to romp with.  His adopters need to know he still has weight to lose so he can live a full and healthy life.  There is little that cuts K-9 life expectancy like excessive weight and fat.

Drako is supposed to be housebroken and good with children.  We have not had the opportunity to test either yet.  His manners need work and basic obedience will polish him right up.  He gets along really well with even our smallest fosters even though his size intimidates them.  Amazingly, he has not been a barker which is typical of the Aussies.  That we have greatly appreciated!  He is low to medium activity so far, though we are encouraging him to be more active to melt the fat.  He has shown some toy drive which we need to explore further.  We believe that once he learns boundaries, he has the potential to be "lite" with proper handling, meaning all humans maintain alpha position.  He is not a bad boy at all.  He was just never given parameters and he seems willing and eager to please thus far.  This guy is a real diamond in the rough!

Drako is available now for adoption appointments to approved applicants.
