NIKA | |
|
Nika is a female black and white smooth coated border collie that is 8-10 years young. Don't let her age fool you, she has plenty of get up and go (8 months ago she jumped over a 6-foot fence). She is energetic and active, and you'd be hard pressed to guess she's a senior dog.
Nika first came into our rescue as an owner surrender when her people could no longer afford to keep her. BCIN adopted her out 6 months ago and now her new owner can't keep her because of health issues.
Nika is a very sweet and loving dog who'll forge a close bond with her person. She has nice manners, is crate trained, walks well on a leash, knows her basic obedience and is housebroken. Nika loves to play with balls (tennis, soccer or basketballs) and will self entertain with toys. She has attended adoption events in the past, and even with the excess stimulus of many dogs, people, and children, she took it all in stride, without issue.
Nika is a dominant female, and while she gets along with most of her foster siblings, she will challenge other females on occasion. An opposite gender placement is recommended and she would probably prefer to be an only dog, so she doesn't have to share attention. Due to her high prey drive, a home without cats or other small animals is a must.
Nika would make a nice family dog, so please open your heart and home to her. BCIN takes in more than a fair share of the senior BC's and it is fact that adoption rates for a 5+-year-old senior in a shelter are reduced significantly. Nika will be adopted under our senior program, which means our adoption fee is significantly reduced, so she can find a loving home to she spend the rest of her golden years.
Please open your heart and home to adopting a senior. BCIN takes in more than a fair share of the senior BCs, as it is fact that adoption rates in the shelter are reduced significantly once a dog reaches 5 years of age. BCIN was Nika's only hope of making it out of the shelter and we gladly welcomed her into our rescue program. Nika will be adopted under our senior program. This means we reduce our adoption fee significantly so that she can find a loving home where she spend the rest of her golden years.
If you are interested in meeting our dogs, please go on line and fill out an adoption application. We require a pre-approved application to be on file before any meet and greets are scheduled. The electronic application can be found on our website at http://www.bordercolliesinneed.org/border_collie_rescue_and_adoptions/adoption_application.html
