SHAWNEE | |
|
Shawnee is a 2-3 year old female Border Collie. She is possibly mixed with some Aussie, as she is a little stockier and a bit shorter than what I am used to seeing in border collie confirmation. She is black and white with a beautiful rough coat. She is a bit portly, and could lose some weight, so her bone structure might look even more BC as she trims down a bit. Her energy level is on the lower medium side, as she would benefit from some exercise so she can shed some of those unwanted pounds.
Poor Shawnee was very shut down and stressed out in the shelter, as shelter staff could not get close to her to initially examine her. They originally listed her as a male, and I called them later to let them know that she was indeed a female. Once she was in foster care, her personality started to shine through immediately. Her tails wags non-stop and she often wakes her foster mom at night from her tail thumping. She is very affectionate and loves nothing better than to be with her people. Shawnee initially warms up to women first over men, but she will warm up pretty quickly to men as long as a softer voice is used. She instantly warmed up to her foster dad without issue.
This gal is housebroken and has very nice house manners. She has not barked once at the house. I am not sure she would like to be an only dog, unless she is can be with her human most of time. When I have her away from her pack, she can do some low howling. However, she needs some work on her basic obedience like sit, etc. Shawnee rides very well in the car and just goes down and lay in the back. She will stay off the furniture, but occasionally she can’t resist and will jump into bed with you. It is apparent that Shawnee was previously loved, but she was probably mostly a backyard dog. She could use some socialization outside the home and needs a kind and patient person to show her that the outside world is not scary. Felines do not seem to bother her in the least, so I would be confident to say that she would be ok with them. Shawnee gets along with her foster siblings, however, I believe that she would be happiest being the dominant female. With that said, she has not vied to climb the hierarchy in the pack and she is very respectful of her senior foster sibling.
Shawnee is a very nice dog and would make a very loyal canine companion….she is BFF material.
