BRANDI
| |
 |
Brandi is a precocious 8 month-old female red and white purebred Border Collie puppy. She came to our rescue as a stray from a high kill shelter. It was apparent that Brandi had been neglected, as she had a dull, brittle, and very faded coat that had mats all over her. With some good nutrition, the dead overcoat has shed out to reveal a deep red. Brandi will be a petite Border Collie with a semi-rough coat.
Brandi is very sweet and affectionate, but does not have any manners. She will need a person who is willing to start at the beginning of her training, although she can walk on a leash. She is still learning not to jump up on you, so she probably should not be placed in a home where she can knock over small children. She is quite fixated on cats, so a home without them would be best suited for her. Brandi loves to cuddle, and will come into the house and settle down after a while. She sleeps in the house either on the bed or in a crate. She is housebroken and has not had any potty accidents while in foster care.
Brandi gets along very well with all other dogs and enjoys playing with them. She probably would not do well as an only dog, as she enjoys the company of her foster siblings. As with all pups, she can become bored easily and will become destructive if her energy is not channeled in a positive way.
Brandi is a true BC pup through and through. She is a typical youngster, as she would rather play than learn her obedience. Her energy level is appropriate for a pup her age and she should settle down as she matures. Brandi requires an adopter who is BC savvy, and has had previous BC experience with an alpha female. Since she knows she is cute and pretty, she can be quite coy and manipulative with her looks. If you are not consistent with your discipline, she will be alpha and take over your household. She doesn't want to, but she will, if you let her.
Brandi's adopters must be committed to work with the destruction and energy associated with raising a puppy, along with housebreaking accidents. As with all puppies, socialization and puppy obedience classes are a must. This will ensure that you will have an outgoing, socialized, well behaved, and well adjusted adult dog in your family. In addition to our adoption application, applicants will be required to fill out a puppy questionnaire after the application has been submitted.
