DOLLY

Update:
Dolly is now an approximately 4-months old border collie puppy. She is a very sweet girl, and loves people and dogs. Very smart, she's learning to walk on a leash, and learning to become housebroken. She's crate-trained at night. Dolly loves kids.
We would love to see her with an experienced herding dog owner, someone who is home a lot. She is not a dog to put in the backyard and forget. She loves playing and being with other dogs, but has not been tested with cats. Super sweet and shy when she first meets you, she is then your best friend.
She can go in any direction you put her in, and is a super mellow girl.
Meet Dolly. This darling female pup is about 11 weeks old. We are not sure if she is purebred or a mix, but she looks predominately Border Collie. Her foster home was out riding her horse when she came upon some people on the side of the road giving away pups. One can only imagine her surprise and horror of witnessing this. Of course she scooped up Dolly and rode home with her on horseback. What a little trooper Dolly was.
Dolly was immediatly dewormed and given her first round of puppy shots, as none had been given. Her foster home describes Dolly as sweet, calm, shy, but will warm up to you quickly. Dolly adores being around the other dogs and already has made herself at home with them. Such a smart little girl, she is thriving on the routine of the house. She already is crate trained, and she sleeps in her crate at night.
The ideal home for Dolly is one with previous experience in raising a herding breed pup. It is also important to have someone that is home a lot to devote lots of time to her socialization and obedience training. It is preferable that her new home has another younger dog around for company and comfort. There are no cats in her foster home, so it is unsure what her prey drive will be. Dolly will not be adopted into a home with young children.
Basic obedience training is the next step for Dolly. Dolly is in the process of receiving all of her puppy vaccinations, so it will be a few weeks yet that she will be fully protected enough to leave the premises.
Although Dolly is darling, please do not apply for her unless you have the right stuff to raise this breed and understands their needs, quirks and all. Dolly's adopters must be committed to work with the destruction and energy associated with raising a puppy, along with housebreaking accidents. As with all puppies, socialization and puppy obedience classes are a must. This will ensure that you will have an outgoing, socialized, well behaved, and well adjusted adult dog in your family.
If you are interested in meeting our dogs, please fill out an adoption application. We require a pre-approved application to be on file before any meet and greets are scheduled. Our dogs have been sterilized, microchipped, and are up to date on their vaccinations. The electronic application can be found on our website at www.bordercolliesinneed.org/border_collie_rescue_and_adoptions/adoption_application.html.
