ZENA
Zena
Zena is a two year old purebred Border Collie spayed female. Tall for her breed, Zena is 55 pounds. She was bailed from the Norco Shelter and currently resides with her foster family. Zena is smart, sweet, and fun loving. She loves to play with toys and other dogs. She will invent her own games and encourage her family to play them with her.

Zena is a very active dog and needs to go to a home with people that have an active lifestyle and can provide the exercise and engagement that she desires. In her foster home, Zena actively plays with her Australian Shepherd - Border Collie mix host. Though she is significantly larger and younger than her playmate, she defers to him and has no issue with him being leader of the dog pack.

Zena is house broken, crate trained, knows her commands, and is currently completing a basic dog obedience class with her foster mom. She likes her crate and will put herself to bed in it at night without having to be told. Zena does have some fear aggression issues, which generally manifest themselves with her barking and growling loudly and repetitively when strangers come to the home. She is improving, and should continue to improve with further work. She will listen, and her owners can alleviate the behavior with strong commands and reward for good behavior. Once she becomes familiar with an individual she will warm up and put her head in their lap. Because of this issue Zena’s prospective adopters must be familiar with dogs and have the ability to be strong pack leaders. Children are unlikely to have these characteristics so homes with children would most likely not be considered. Knowledge of the Border Collie breed is a plus. If you are interested in Zena, please fill out our adoption application: https://www.aussierescuesocal.com/applications/adoption_v2/ (Rancho Palos Verdes)
